Breakouts During Pregnancy - How To Prevent It

by Daniel Wright

During pregnancy there are changes in hormone levels of the woman. Due to this the skin secretes more oil and results in acne. This condition is also called a skin breakout during pregnancy. Women who have more tendencies for breakout suffer more intensely. One should avoid using greasy cosmetics to prevent this acne problem.

Increased oil gland activity creates clogged pores and, in turn, causes outbreaks of lesions which are commonly known as "pimples" or "zits". These lesions are generally found on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulder regions. Teenagers and pregnant women suffer more from this. There are some things that you can do to prevent these breakouts during pregnancy.

The first thing to reduce breakouts during pregnancy is to keep your skin clean. After cleaning the skin, rinse it with lukewarm water. Using an oil-free facial cleanser is good. Most of all, avoid soaps that contain oils or other skin-irritating substances.

Another important thing you must not do when dealing with acne has to do with prevention. It is important to keep your hands off from those affected areas. Touching the areas will only make it worse. If you touch or pick them, it can cause spreading of the bacteria. Also, picking can even create scars.

During pregnancy it is important to reduce stress. It is not only helpful in your overall health, but also for your breakouts. Eating a healthy diet also helps along with stress management. Regular exercise also helps in controlling this problem. Regular daily exercise increases blood flow to the skin, and helps it to stay healthier.

A topical drug (drug that is applied on the skin rather than taken internally) is required for the treating of this condition. Besides the topical medications available by prescription during pregnancy, antibiotics can also help stop breakouts. The main thing to remember is that you must not pick, squeeze, or rub the skin with your hands; keep in mind that the problem is inside your hair follicles and under your skin.
