How To Choose Which Clothes To Wear While You're Pregnant

by Andrea Dilea

While some women prefer to keep working until they give birth, others take time off a few weeks to a month before their due date. Regardless of the option you choose, you should purchase maternity clothes suitable for work sometime between three and a half to four months along in your gestation. A good rule of thumb is that when your regular clothes no longer fit well, you should begin your maternity purchases.

Keep the seasons in mind while making decisions about purchasing maternity clothes. Wearing layered clothes is an excellent option for pregnant women, which can save you a few bucks and help you regulate your body temperature as the weather changes.

Mixing and matching your work clothes is key. The plus size fashionista wants to look as good while she is pregnant as she did before, and why shouldn't she? Buy a few pairs of pants in neutral colors such as black, navy, gray, brown and tan. Buy a nice skirt such as an A-line skirt in a neutral shade, a jacket to go with a number of different outfits, a dress and an assortment of tops. Make sure your bottoms are all made from stretch soft fabrics that can breathe as easily as possible. Show some creativity with the shirts and tops you buy. Buy something with a splash of color for the warmer months, just make sure you can match it up with as many separates as possible.

During the winter months, it's very fashionable to wear a long sleeved cardigan with a V-neck or crew neck sweater underneath as a sweater set to the office. You can add extra flair to your outfit by adding some stylish black pants as well as accessories.

Ever imagined how much better and amazing you can look even in a simple nice dress with just the right kind of accessories. No matter what your size is, it doesn't matter if you are wearing right earrings, necklaces, bracelets etc. These accessories in general are meant to add value to your appearance but they do wonder when they are appropriately matched to your outfit.

Shoes also make a difference. Pregnancy can cause the feet to ache terribly so bear this in mind as you shop for shoes for work, even in the early stages of your pregnancy. A comfortable but timeless sling-back pump in a color such as black is an excellent choice for the office and looks great with pants, dresses and skirts. There are also plenty of ballerina flats that are sophisticated enough to work for the office. As you get bigger you might find that your feet need more breathing room so you should buy shoes in a wider width than usual.

Always buy work clothes that are made of soft material that can breath. Make sure you avoid clothes with complicated fasteners or any irritating zippers, buttons or inseams. Aim for fashionable clothes that do not look too girlish or childish.
