I'm a Pimply-Faced 40 year old!

by Clarita Milles

If you've ever wished you could be young again to undo some of your childhood mistakes, well Nature may just have found a way to make you feel like a teenager again, but not like you had wished! All it takes is getting up one morning to leave for work when you realize a big fat pimple sitting in the middle of your forehead.

It doesn't seem right! Just when you've finally crossed all the teenage hurdles you're face to face with an unexpected and unwanted acne breakout. Well, you can't very much call in sick to work, what can you do?

First, don't fret. If you discuss your problem with a dermatologist they'll tell you that acne isn't exclusive to teenagers. And secondly, seek the right treatment for your adult acne condition.

Is Adult Acne really a Problem?

Acne in adults is seldom heard of because most people keep it to themselves. Admittedly, adult acne seems to be an untouchable topic of conversation while adult acne scars or teenage acne are readily accepted. It's no surprise to anyone that acne is directly associated to the developing stages of our life and has no place in our adult life, making it difficult to face when haunted by the condition. Nonetheless, the same type of acne that haunted us during high school can also make its reappearance during our 30's or 40's.

Don't get this confused with another type of acne called acne rosacea - or rosacea for short-. The appearance of one or both types of acne are likely to appear during adulthood.

What do you really know what Acne?

In the middle of the acne breakout is the dreaded pimple, or what's known to specialists as comedo. It's a plug of sebum mixed with skin debris and keratin (the stuff nails, hair, and skin are made of) lodged inside a hair duct.

This plug can create one of two results; a whitehead or a blackhead. Whiteheads, unlike blackheads, often cause the walls of the hair duct to rupture leading to redness, infection, and cysts that are common in acne.

One interesting fact is that during adolescence teenage boys will be more likely to suffer from acne scarring while girls will be more susceptible to suffer from adult acne. So, what do we recommend you to do?

The trouble is that almost everyone thinks that acne results from poor hygiene and that's just not true. Adult acne and teen acne are caused by a combination of several factors: hormones leading to excess oil secretion, faulty closing of the hair duct, and infection.

A Solution Like no Other

Most people will reach for the quickest solution and squeeze their pimples. It is undeniably effective, but is accompanied with possible infection and acne scarring. A word to the wise, squeezing or picking at pimples spreads acne infection, so you'd do best to avoid it! You are, however, recommended to consult with you dermatologist. A doctor will treat a pimple by using a special sterile instrument to prevent scarring, infection, and acne spread. If these options seem unlikely for your condition then there is one more tried-and-true remedy, an acne home remedy recommended for all skin types.

So, if you're still wondering which treatment for adult acne you should use, keep in mind that the right acne treatment will depend on your needs. Ideally, an effective acne treatment should also be able to remove scars and regenerate damaged skin. Nonetheless, trying every acne product out there becomes a very costly and exhausting experience. This is why we recommend finding products made with natural ingredients to insure that you get the best product.
