Lifestyle Changes for Dry Skin Treatment

by Lisel Torgerson

Dry skin is a relatively minor condition. Nevertheless, it can make your skin feel tight and itchy and lead to premature aging.

When dry skin is a serious condition, it can be disfiguring and lead to self-esteem issues. Luckily, most dry skin problems are due to environmental factors, which can be controlled, partially or completely. The following article will state some of the lifestyle changes you can make and some natural remedies you can try to deal with your dry skin.

Changes in Your Lifestyle

Many changes can be made to improve your dry skin problems. They are very straightforward modifications that will not disrupt your daily routine.

Lifestyle Change 1 - Moisturizing Dry Skin Naturally

Moisturizing is an essential part to keeping your skin healthy. Use thick moisturizers on your skin while it is still damp. Never let your skin dry completely.

You can also start using cosmetics and skin treatment products that contain moisturizers. If you have extremely dry skin, try using oils instead of creams and lotions. Oils stay on longer than lotions and will prevent water from evaporating from the skin's surface.

Lifestyle Change 2 - Knowing when to Moisturize Dry Skin

Apply moisturizes right after bathing. Pat your skin damp with a towel and apply your favorite moisturizer. This helps trap water in the surface cells.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Use a Humidifier

Hot, dry indoor air can parch sensitive skin and worsen itching and flaking. By using a humidifier, you will add moisture to the air in your home. Make sure to keep it clean to protect against bacteria and fungi.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Check your Closet

The wrong type of fabric can have a detrimental effect on your dry skin. Go for natural fibers, cotton and silk, that will allow your skin to breathe. But wool, although it certainly qualifies as natural, can irritate even normal skin.

It is also important to wash your clothes with gentle detergents, without dyes or perfumes. Both dyes and perfumes can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

Homemade Remedies and Natural Moisturizers for Dry Skin

Natural moisturizers include high quality oils such as olive oil. Natural moisturizing oils can be used separately of combined to form a more elaborate moisturizer.

Also, there are a wide range of homemade remedies that can help deal with dry skin.

For example, place 2 tablespoon of oats in a pan and add 1 tablespoon of honey and a little bit of water. Heat up the mixture a little and apply directly to your skin. If you are unsure of the results, try it on your hand first and then wipe off with damp cloth after a few minutes.

Bio skin care is a good way to deal with dry skin. A few lifestyle changes and the addition of a natural moisturizer to your skin care regime can really improve your dry skin.
